A master bushing kit covers every position that matters on your Mitsubishi Lancer in one part number, so the whole car gets done at once rather than one joint at a time over several years.
It is also the only way a bushing upgrade delivers what it promises.
Doing Half Your Mitsubishi Lancer Gives You a New Problem
Fit polyurethane to one position and leave the rest, and you will notice less than you expected. There is a reason for that, and it is not the parts.
A suspension is a system, and every joint in it contributes to how much your geometry moves under load. Replace one bushing and you have removed deflection at that pivot while every other pivot on the car carries on flexing exactly as before. The arm is tighter, the alignment still moves, and the car still goes vague when you load it up.
It gets worse than neutral. A fresh polyurethane bushing holds its position properly while the tired rubber next to it deflects, so the two ends of the same arm now behave differently under the same input. What you feel through the steering is that mismatch, and plenty of people write the upgrade off as overrated when the real problem is that they only did half of it.
Do the car properly and the result is a completely different thing. Every joint holds, the geometry stays where the aligner set it, the steering has a directness it has not had in years, and the car responds immediately instead of leaning, settling, then turning.
The Labor Is the Cost on Your Mitsubishi Lancer, Not the Bushings
The economics back it up, because bushings are cheap and getting to them is not.
Almost every position needs the arm or component off the car and the old bushing pressed out, and that work takes the same time whether you replace one bushing or every bushing on the corner. Do a single position today and you pay for the teardown, the press work and an alignment. Do the next one a year later and you pay for all three again, having gained nothing for the second round of labor.
Fit a master kit while everything is already apart and the cost per position collapses. One shop booking, one session at the press, one alignment. For anyone paying someone else to do the work, that difference is routinely larger than the kit costs in the first place.
It is also why a master kit is close to free in labor terms if the suspension is coming apart anyway. Arms off for ball joints, front end stripped for coilovers, subframe down for any reason at all, and the bushings will never be cheaper to replace than they are right then.
Mitsubishi Lancer Vehicle Kits and Driveline Kits
The range splits two ways, and knowing which you want saves buying the wrong one.
Essential Vehicle Kits cover the suspension positions that most affect how the car drives, available front, rear or front and rear depending on the platform. This is the handling package. Control arm positions, steering rack mounts, trailing arms, strut and shock mounts, whatever that particular chassis needs to hold its geometry under load.
Essential Driveline Kits do the same job for the engine, transmission and differential mounts. Engine pitch mounts, gearbox mounts, crossmember pads and differential mounts all control how far the powertrain rotates against its own torque before that torque reaches the ground. On a turbocharged car making meaningful power, driveline movement is costing you more than most people realize.
Plenty of cars benefit from both. They address different problems and neither substitutes for the other.
Individual control arm bushing kits and single position kits are still there for a diagnosed fault where everything else is genuinely sound.
When a Master Kit Is the Wrong Call for Your Mitsubishi Lancer
Worth being straight about where this is not the right purchase.
If you have diagnosed one specific failure and the rest of your Mitsubishi Lancer is healthy, buy that one kit and keep the difference. If the arms themselves are bent, corroded or have mounting eyes worn oval, no bushing fixes that and you are looking at replacement components. If the car is being sold soon, the labor in a full refresh is hard to justify against what you will get back.
Master kits also make far less sense spread across a year of weekends. Most of the value is in doing everything in one teardown, so working through the list gradually means paying master kit money for single kit economics.
Planning the Mitsubishi Lancer Job
Set aside real time. A master kit is not an afternoon, and rushing it is how mounting eyes get damaged.
Almost every position needs a press, and a correct diameter press tool is what stands between a clean install and a ruined arm. Check each eye as the old bushing comes out, since a bore worn oval will not hold a new bushing and means that component needs replacing rather than rebushing.
Install the crush tubes and sleeves supplied, because the tube carries clamping load from the bolt and a bushing fitted without one gets crushed the moment it is torqued.
Grease on assembly with a lubricant made for polyurethane. Silicone and PTFE based greases are correct, while ordinary lithium and petroleum based greases can degrade the material over time.
Torque everything with the car on its wheels at ride height rather than hanging on a lift. Whatever position a bushing is clamped in becomes its neutral position, and one tightened at full droop spends its life twisted. With a master kit that applies to dozens of fasteners, so work through them methodically rather than from memory at the end of a long day.
Book the alignment for the same visit, because replacing this many bushings changes every angle the machine measures.
