Whiteline gearbox mount bushes take the slop out of your driveline. They firm up the soft factory transmission mount, so the gearbox stays where it should under acceleration, braking and gear changes. The result is crisper shifts, sharper response on and off the throttle, and less clunk and shunt through the car.
The range includes gearbox mount inserts, gearbox crossmember bushes, complete mount assemblies and side support mount inserts. It covers manual, automatic and CVT applications across passenger, performance, all-wheel-drive and classic vehicles.
What a Gearbox Mount Does
The gearbox, or transmission, is bolted to the engine and supported by one or more mounts that attach it to the body or a crossmember. These mounts carry the weight of the gearbox, resist the twisting force of engine torque, and stop driveline vibration reaching the cabin.
Factory gearbox mounts are designed mainly for comfort. Many use soft rubber with large voids, or hollow sections, moulded into them so they absorb as much vibration as possible. That softness lets the gearbox move noticeably every time torque is applied or released.
You feel this movement as lag in the gear lever, a delay before the car responds to the throttle, and a shunt through the driveline when you get on or off the accelerator.
Signs of a Worn Gearbox Mount
- A clunk or thud when taking off, changing gear or lifting off the throttle
- The gear lever moving or rocking under acceleration and deceleration
- Vague, notchy or delayed gear changes
- A lurch or shunt through the driveline when switching between accelerating and coasting
- Increased vibration through the floor, pedals or gear lever
- Cracked, split or sagging rubber visible at the mount
Gearbox mount wear builds gradually, so it?s easy to blame symptoms on the clutch, gearbox or engine mounts. Checking the gearbox mount first is a quick, low-cost step that often fixes the problem.
Types of Gearbox Mount Upgrades
Gearbox Mount Inserts
Gearbox mount inserts fit into the voids of the original mount. They fill the hollow sections that allow excess movement, while keeping the factory rubber in place to absorb vibration. Inserts are the most popular upgrade in the range, because they sharpen shift feel and throttle response noticeably with minimal increase in cabin noise. On many applications they?re also quick to fit.
Gearbox Crossmember Bushes
Some applications mount the gearbox to a crossmember through replaceable bushes. Whiteline crossmember bush kits replace the soft factory rubber completely with Whiteline polyurethane, reducing compliance at this key mounting point.
Complete Gearbox Mount Assemblies
For certain applications, Whiteline offers a complete gearbox mount assembly with torque arm inserts. It supplies a fresh mount with all the hardware needed. The inserts work with the mount to control engine and gearbox rotation under hard acceleration, without the harshness of a fully solid mount.
Side Support Mount Inserts
Side support mount inserts suit performance-focused builds. They control gearbox movement as firmly as possible for the sharpest response. Because they reduce compliance significantly, expect some increase in noise and vibration, which suits drivers who put performance first.
Rubber, Hardened and Polyurethane Gearbox Mounts
Factory rubber mounts give the quietest ride when new, but they soften and crack over time, and their voided designs allow plenty of movement from day one.
Hardened rubber and solid mounts remove movement almost entirely, but pass far more vibration and noise into the cabin. They?re generally best suited to dedicated competition cars.
Whiteline polyurethane sits between the two. Inserts and bushes reduce compliance exactly where the factory mount is weakest, giving a firm, connected feel while still absorbing much of the driveline vibration. Polyurethane also resists oil, heat and deformation, so it keeps performing long after rubber would have degraded.
Manual, Automatic and CVT Applications
Gearbox mount upgrades aren?t only for manual cars. In a manual, they give a more precise, positive gear change and remove the lag between clutch, throttle and drive.
In automatic and CVT vehicles, they reduce the shunt felt when engaging drive or reverse, and the lurch when the throttle is applied or released. Each kit is specified for particular gearbox types, so check whether your kit suits manual, automatic or CVT before ordering.
Finding the Right Kit and Installation
Search by your vehicle and check the fitment notes on each listing, which can include gearbox type, engine and build dates.
Gearbox mount inserts can often be fitted by an experienced home mechanic with basic tools and a safe way to support the gearbox. Crossmember bushes and complete mount assemblies may require more dismantling and are often best done by a workshop. Follow the instructions supplied with your kit, and keep these points in mind:
- Support the gearbox securely before loosening any mounts.
- Fit inserts or bushes exactly as described in the instructions, making sure each one is fully seated.
- Tighten all fasteners to the manufacturer?s specification.
- After installation, check that the gear lever, exhaust and driveshaft have adequate clearance through their full range of movement.
Who Gearbox Mount Bushes Suit
Gearbox mount bushes suit drivers who want crisper gear changes and a more connected feel on the road, and enthusiasts who drive at track days or in motorsport, where precise shifts and consistent driveline response matter most. They also suit owners of higher-kilometre cars whose factory mounts have softened, cracked or sagged.
They?re particularly worthwhile alongside other driveline upgrades, such as shifter bushes or engine mount inserts. Controlling movement at every mounting point gives the most precise result.
Durability and Warranty
Whiteline gearbox mount bushes and inserts are built to withstand constant heat, torque loads and vibration without cracking or losing shape. They need no routine maintenance beyond a visual check at each service. Every Whiteline component is backed by our warranty, a fitment guarantee and 30 day returns.
