Whiteline lowering blocks for your TOYOTA HIACE give leaf-sprung vehicles a simple, affordable rear drop without replacing the springs. Fitted between the axle and the leaf spring pack, they lower ride height by a set amount, creating a lower, more level stance and a lower centre of gravity for a more planted feel.
Made from lightweight, strong aluminium, Whiteline lowering blocks come as complete kits with U-bolts and hardware. A choice of heights and fitments suits utes, pick-ups, light commercials, street builds and classic leaf-sprung vehicles.
How TOYOTA HIACE Lowering Blocks Work
On a leaf spring rear suspension, the axle is clamped to the spring pack with U-bolts. A centre bolt runs through the spring pack and locates it on the axle?s spring seat.
On a spring-under-axle layout, where the spring sits below the axle, a lowering block is fitted between the spring and the axle?s spring seat. Raising the axle?s position relative to the spring by the height of the block lowers the body by roughly the same amount. The spring itself isn?t changed, so the spring rate and load-carrying capacity remain the same.
Each block has a locating pin on one side and a hole on the other. The pin locates in the axle?s spring seat, and the hole receives the head of the spring?s centre bolt, keeping the spring, block and axle precisely aligned.
TOYOTA HIACE Lowering Blocks vs Lift Blocks
The same type of block can raise or lower a vehicle, depending on the suspension layout.
On spring-under-axle suspension, a block between the spring and axle lowers your TOYOTA HIACE. On spring-over-axle suspension, where the spring sits on top of the axle, a block between the axle and spring raises your TOYOTA HIACE, which is how lift blocks work.
Confirm your suspension layout before choosing blocks, so you get the height change you?re expecting.
What?s in a TOYOTA HIACE Lowering Block Kit
A Whiteline lowering block kit includes everything needed for both sides of the axle:
A pair of aluminium lowering blocks
New U-bolts to suit the added block height
Washers and nuts
U-bolts stretch when they?re tightened and shouldn?t be reused, so new U-bolts are included with every kit. They?re also sized to suit the extra height the block adds.
Choosing the Right Lowering Block
Each listing shows the block height, pin and hole sizes, and U-bolt specification. Check these against your TOYOTA HIACE before ordering.
Block Height
Block height determines how much the rear of your TOYOTA HIACE is lowered. Heights are listed in millimetres with inch equivalents. Choose a height that gives the stance you want while leaving enough suspension travel for everyday driving and any loads you carry.
Locating Pin and Hole Size
The block?s locating pin must match the hole in your axle?s spring seat. The hole in the block must suit the head of your spring?s centre bolt. Measure both, and match them to the listing to make sure the block locates correctly.
U-Bolt Size
U-bolts are specified by thread diameter and width. The width must match your spring pack and axle tube. Choose a kit with U-bolts to suit your axle, and confirm there?s enough thread length for the added block height.
Benefits of Lowering a Leaf-Sprung Vehicle
Lower, more level stance: removes the nose-down, rear-high look common on utes and pick-ups
Lower centre of gravity: reduces body movement and gives a more planted feel through corners
Simple and cost-effective: a rear drop without replacing the springs
Reversible: blocks can be removed later to return to standard height
Predictable height change: each block height gives a consistent, known drop
Things to Check When Lowering
Lowering changes the rear suspension?s position, so check the following during and after fitting:
Suspension travel: lowering reduces the distance before the axle reaches its bump stops. If the bump stops engage too often, consider shorter bump stops or a smaller block.
Clearances: check that the tyres, axle, diff and exhaust have enough clearance from the body and chassis at full compression.
Pinion angle: the block should sit flat and correctly located, so the pinion angle stays where it should be. Driveline vibration after fitting can indicate a pinion angle problem.
Loads and towing: blocks don?t change spring rate. If you regularly carry heavy loads or tow, make sure there?s still enough travel for your TOYOTA HIACE when laden.
Headlight aim: check headlight alignment after lowering, especially if the front height hasn?t changed.
Vehicle standards: ride height modifications are regulated differently between countries and regions. Check your TOYOTA HIACE standards and inspection requirements that apply where your TOYOTA HIACE is registered, and tell your insurer about the modification.
Installation Tips
Lowering blocks can be fitted by a workshop or an experienced home mechanic. As a general guide:
Support your TOYOTA HIACE securely on stands under the chassis, with the axle supported separately.
Work on one side at a time, so the axle stays located.
Remove the old U-bolts, separate the spring from the axle, and fit the block with its pin in the axle seat and the centre bolt head in the block?s hole.
Fit the new U-bolts, washers and nuts, tightening evenly in a cross pattern to the manufacturer?s specification.
Recheck U-bolt tightness after the first few hundred kilometres.
A wheel alignment and headlight check are recommended after any change in ride height.
Who Lowering Blocks Suit
Lowering blocks suit ute and pick-up owners wanting a lower, more level stance, and street and performance builders with leaf-sprung rear suspension. Classic car owners restoring or adjusting rear ride height are well served too, as is anyone wanting an affordable, reversible rear drop without new springs.
