Whiteline universal sway bar links connect your sway bar to the suspension with strong, precise, adjustable links. They replace worn or inadequate factory links and let you set the exact length your E30, E35, E50, E55 COROLLA needs. Heavy-duty ball joints and a window of adjustability remove sway bar preload and ensure the bar delivers its full effect, for improved grip and better handling.
Selected by ball stud size, length range and mounting style rather than by vehicle, universal sway bar links suit factory and aftermarket sway bars on lowered cars, performance builds, lifted 4WDs and 4x4s, and restored or custom vehicles.
What Sway Bar Links Do
A sway bar, also called an anti-roll bar or stabiliser bar, connects the left and right sides of the suspension. As the body rolls in a corner, the bar twists and resists that roll, keeping your E30, E35, E50, E55 COROLLA flatter and the tyres more evenly loaded.
Sway bar links, also called end links or drop links, connect each end of the sway bar to the suspension arm or strut. Every bit of load the sway bar controls passes through these links. If they?re worn, flexible or the wrong length, the sway bar can?t do its job properly.
Why Adjustable Sway Bar Links Matter on Your E30, E35, E50, E55 COROLLA
The effectiveness of both factory and aftermarket sway bars can be held back by worn or inadequate mounts, drop links and lateral stoppers. Fixed-length links are designed around standard ride height and a standard sway bar, so any change to the suspension can leave them the wrong length.
Adjustable links solve this. Their length can be set precisely during installation, so the sway bar sits in its neutral position at normal ride height. That means:
- No sway bar preload, so handling is balanced from side to side
- Correct link angles for the sway bar to work efficiently
- Full sway bar effectiveness, whether you?re running a factory or aftermarket bar
Sway Bar Link Preload Explained
Preload occurs when a sway bar is forced to twist while your E30, E35, E50, E55 COROLLA is standing still. It happens when the links on each side are different lengths, or when the links are tightened with your E30, E35, E50, E55 COROLLA at an uneven height.
A preloaded sway bar pushes one wheel down harder than the other. That makes your E30, E35, E50, E55 COROLLA handle differently in left and right corners, and it can affect corner weights and stability.
Adjustable sway bar links eliminate preload by allowing each link to be set to exactly the length needed for the bar to sit relaxed and level.
Types of Universal Sway Bar Links
- Adjustable ball joint links: a threaded body with a ball joint at each end. They offer smooth articulation, precise length adjustment and strong load transfer, making them ideal for performance and modified vehicles.
- Heavy-duty links: larger ball joints and stronger bodies, built for higher sway bar loads, stiffer aftermarket bars and demanding driving.
- Bushed links: a threaded rod with bushes and washers at each end. A common factory-style design on many vehicles.
Ball studs come in different diameters, and the stud can be oriented horizontally or vertically depending on the mounting points. Choose a link to match your sway bar and suspension mounts.
Adjustable Links for Lowered and Lifted E30, E35, E50, E55 COROLLA
Changing ride height changes the distance between the sway bar and its mounting point on the suspension.
- Lowered vehicles: fixed links can end up at awkward angles, preload the bar or bind as the suspension moves. Shorter or adjustable links restore the correct geometry.
- Lifted 4WDs and 4x4s: links can become too short, pulling the sway bar into an extreme angle and limiting articulation. Longer or adjustable links bring the bar back into its working range.
- Aftermarket sway bars: different bar shapes and mounting positions often call for a different link length, and adjustable links make fitment straightforward.
Signs of Worn Sway Bar Links
- Clunking, knocking or rattling from the suspension over bumps
- More body roll than usual through corners
- A vague or delayed feel when turning in
- Torn ball joint boots, or play in the ball joints
- Your E30, E35, E50, E55 COROLLA that behaves differently turning left versus right
How to Measure and Choose Universal Sway Bar Links for your E30, E35, E50, E55 COROLLA
Universal sway bar links are listed by their key specifications:
- Ball stud diameter: must match the hole in your sway bar and suspension mount
- Adjustable length range: the centre-to-centre distance between the ball studs. The length you need should fall within the link?s adjustment range.
- Stud orientation: horizontal or vertical, to suit how your mounts are positioned
- Duty rating: standard or heavy-duty, to suit your sway bar and driving
To find the length you need, measure the distance between the sway bar mounting hole and the suspension mounting point, with your E30, E35, E50, E55 COROLLA at normal ride height and the sway bar level. Then choose a link with that length inside its adjustment range.
Installing Adjustable Sway Bar Links Without Preload
Adjustable sway bar links can be fitted by a workshop or an experienced home mechanic. Follow these steps for a preload-free setup:
- Set your E30, E35, E50, E55 COROLLA at its normal ride height, ideally on its wheels or with the suspension supported evenly at ride height on both sides, on level ground.
- Fit each link to the suspension mount first, tightening the ball stud to specification.
- Adjust the link length until the ball stud lines up with the sway bar hole without forcing the bar up or down.
- Fit the stud to the sway bar and tighten it to specification, holding the stud flat to stop it spinning.
- Repeat on the other side, then check the bar can be moved slightly by hand on each side with equal effort, which shows it isn?t preloaded.
- Tighten the lock nuts on the threaded bodies, and check the ball joints can move freely through their full range without binding.
Recheck all fasteners after the first drive and at each service.
Who Universal Sway Bar Links Suit
Universal sway bar links suit drivers of lowered cars who need shorter or adjustable links to restore correct geometry, and owners of lifted 4WDs and 4x4s who need longer links. They?re also ideal for enthusiasts fitting aftermarket or adjustable sway bars, track and motorsport vehicles where preload must be eliminated, and anyone replacing worn or noisy factory links with a stronger, adjustable upgrade.
