Whiteline subframe bushes lock the subframe firmly to the body, so the suspension and driveline mounted to it stay where they?re meant to be. Each kit replaces or reinforces soft factory rubber with Whiteline polyurethane. That removes the movement that causes wheel hop, vague handling and alignment that shifts under load.
The range includes full replacement bushes, insert bushes, align-and-lock kits and motorsport subframe lock kits, for front and rear subframes. It covers performance cars, sports cars, sedans, hatches and crossover SUVs.
What Subframe Bushes Do
A subframe, also called a crossmember, is a separate frame that carries the suspension arms, and often the differential or engine, and bolts to the body. Bushes between the subframe and the body isolate road noise and vibration from the cabin.
Factory subframe bushes are soft, and many are voided rubber designs that allow significant movement. Under hard acceleration, braking or cornering, the whole subframe can shift or ?walk? sideways. Because the suspension is mounted to it, every movement of the subframe changes wheel alignment while you?re driving.
Signs of Worn Subframe Bushes
- A clunk or thud from the front or rear when taking off, changing gear or braking
- Wheel hop under hard acceleration, particularly in powerful rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive cars
- The rear of the car feeling loose, delayed or ?steering? itself mid-corner
- Excess vibration through the floor or seats
- Uneven tyre wear, or alignment settings that won?t hold
- Visible cracking, splitting or collapsed rubber at the subframe mounts
Polyurethane vs Rubber Subframe Bushes
Rubber subframe bushes put comfort first. They flex freely, and they lose shape over time with heat, oil and load.
Whiteline polyurethane subframe bushes resist compression and hold the subframe in position, so alignment stays consistent and power goes to the road. Some Whiteline designs use soft stand-off buffers on the top and bottom faces. These allow a small amount of vertical movement to cushion minor bumps, while still locking the subframe firmly against sideways and fore-aft loads. The result is precise location without an unnecessarily harsh ride.
Types of Subframe Bush Kits
Full Replacement Subframe Bushes
These kits replace the original bushes completely with Whiteline polyurethane, and suit cars where the factory bushes are worn out. Fitting usually requires the subframe to be lowered or removed.
Subframe Insert Bushes
Insert bushes work with the original bushes. They fill the voids that allow excess movement, which motorsport engineers call ?lost motion?. On many applications they can be fitted without removing the subframe, making them a popular, DIY-friendly upgrade for cars with factory bushes that are still in good condition.
Align and Lock Kits
Align and lock kits reduce subframe movement and also let you change the subframe?s angle. Depending on how they?re set, they can increase rear squat for maximum traction, or reduce it to suit drift-style driving. Because they firm up the mounts significantly, expect some increase in cabin noise and vibration.
Subframe Lock Kits for Motorsport
Subframe lock kits effectively remove subframe movement for the most precise rear alignment under racing loads. They?re designed for motorsport use only. They increase noise and vibration, and they?re intended to be fitted for events and removed afterwards, not left in place for everyday driving.
Front and Rear Subframe Bushes
Rear subframe bushes have the biggest effect on traction, wheel hop and rear-end stability, especially in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive cars. Front subframe bushes improve steering precision and front-end feel by stopping the front subframe shifting under braking and cornering.
Finding the Right Kit for Your Vehicle
Each Whiteline subframe bush kit is engineered for specific applications. Search by your vehicle and check the fitment notes on each listing, which can include suspension type, engine and build dates.
Each product page lists bushing design dimensions. For non-standard applications, use the Bushing Size Search to match bushes by size.
Installation and Wheel Alignment
Full replacement subframe bushes usually require the subframe to be lowered or removed. That job is best done by a suspension workshop, or by an experienced home mechanic with a hoist and the correct tools. Insert kits are often simpler and can suit confident DIY installers. Follow the instructions supplied with your kit, and keep these points in mind:
- Support the subframe and any components mounted to it securely before loosening the mounting bolts.
- Remove the old bushes, or fit the inserts, exactly as the instructions describe, and keep any tubes and washers in their correct positions.
- Tighten all fasteners to the manufacturer?s specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment done after installation.
Who Subframe Bushes Suit
Subframe bushes suit owners of performance and all-wheel-drive cars dealing with wheel hop or a loose rear end, and drivers who want sharper, more consistent handling on the road. They?re popular with track day and motorsport competitors who need alignment to stay the same lap after lap.
They?re also a sensible repair for any car with clunks, vibration or alignment problems caused by worn or collapsed factory subframe bushes.
Durability and Warranty
Whiteline polyurethane subframe bushes resist heat, oil, compression and long-term wear, and need no routine maintenance beyond a visual check at each service.
Every kit is backed by the Whiteline warranty, and our support team can help confirm fitment before you buy.
