Universal Auto Parts for 0

Some suspension parts are specified to a vehicle. Others are specified to a dimension, and those are the ones that fit a shelf rather than a model.

This range covers both, for your and beyond: chassis bracing built for specific platforms, and the bump stops, boots, bushings and consumables that go on anything with the right measurements.

What Is in the Universal Auto Parts Range for Your

Seven groups make up the category and they cover quite different jobs.

Strut braces tie the strut towers together to reduce chassis flex, supplied for specific platforms along with universal quick release clamps.

Universal bump stops control what happens at full suspension compression, available in several profiles and sizes.

Dust covers and boots protect joints from grit and water, including tie rod boots.

Bushing grease is the correct lubricant for polyurethane, which matters more than most people realize.

Strut mounts, spare tire carrier mounts and valve stem caps round out the range.

Why Vehicle Specific Braces Sit in a Universal Category

Worth explaining, since it looks like a contradiction at first glance.

Strut braces have to match the bolt pattern, the tower spacing and the clearance in a specific engine bay, so they are engineered per platform rather than cut to length.

They sit here because bracing is a chassis upgrade rather than a suspension component, and the category groups everything that supports the suspension without being part of it.

The genuinely universal items alongside them are the ones sized by dimension: bump stops, shock eye bushings, grease, boots and valve caps. Those will fit anything the measurements happen to suit.

If you are shopping by vehicle, use the vehicle search for the braces. If you are shopping by dimension, the bump stops and bushings are listed by size for exactly that reason.

What a Strut Tower Brace Does

A strut brace, also called a strut tower brace, is a bar connecting the tops of the two strut towers across the engine bay or the trunk.

Under cornering load the suspension pushes up through the strut into the tower, and the tower flexes. On a unibody car that flex is small and it happens on every corner, which means the suspension geometry is moving while you are relying on it.

Tying the towers together makes them resist as a pair rather than individually. One tower trying to deflect is held by the other, and the chassis behaves more like the rigid structure the suspension was designed around.

The result is steering that responds more immediately, because less of your input is absorbed by the body before it reaches the tires and turns into grip.

Front and Rear Strut Braces

Both ends benefit and they change different things.

A front strut brace, or front strut tower brace, is the more common fitment, since the front towers carry steering loads as well as suspension loads. Tightening the front end sharpens turn in and makes the steering feel more direct.

A rear strut brace ties the rear towers and affects stability on corner exit and under braking. On hatchbacks and wagons with a large opening behind the rear seats, the rear structure has less inherent stiffness, which is why a rear brace often delivers more than people expect.

Running both gives a more balanced result than either alone, since stiffening one end alone shifts the balance rather than improving the whole car.

Quick release clamps are worth knowing about as an option. They let the brace be removed in seconds for engine bay access without unbolting anything, which matters on a car that gets worked on regularly.

Why Universal Bump Stops Do More on Your Than You Think

A bump stop is the last line of defense in the suspension, and it does more work than its size suggests.

At full compression the suspension has to stop somewhere. The bump stop is what it stops against, absorbing the final part of the travel so the strut does not bottom out metal on metal.

On a lowered car it matters far more. Lowering uses up compression travel, so the suspension spends more of its time near or on the bump stop, which means the stop is effectively part of the spring rate rather than an emergency measure.

A progressive bump stop in that situation gives a rising rate as it compresses, which is what stops a lowered car crashing over bumps. A worn or missing one leaves the suspension hitting its limits hard.

Factory bump stops crumble away as they age. Rubber dries out, cracks and breaks away, and plenty of cars are running with very little left.

Choosing Universal Bump Stop Sizes for Your

Sizing is by dimension rather than by vehicle, which is what makes them universal.

Height is the main figure, since it determines how much travel remains before the stop engages. A taller stop engages sooner and limits travel further.

Diameter affects how progressively it compresses, with a larger diameter spreading the load and giving a softer initial contact.

The profile of the stop matters alongside the size. Bullet shaped stops compress progressively along their length. Disk types give a flatter rate over a shorter distance. Ultra low versions suit cars where travel is at a premium and the stop needs to be out of the way until it is genuinely needed.

Mounting is usually through a bolt hole, so the bolt size and the inner diameter need checking against what you have.

Measure the space available at full compression rather than copying what came out, particularly if the car has been lowered since the original was fitted.

Dust Covers and Tie Rod Boots

Boots and covers are cheap parts protecting expensive ones.

A tie rod boot keeps grease in and grit out of the ball joint. Once it splits, the grease washes out, contamination gets in, and the joint wears rapidly from that point.

The same principle applies right across the suspension. Any sealed joint relying on a boot is relying on that boot staying intact, and a torn one turns a component with years left into one with months.

Checking them is a two minute job on a hoist and replacing one costs a fraction of replacing the joint behind it.

Inspect them whenever the car is up for anything else, since the failure is silent until the joint starts knocking.

Bushing Grease and Why It Is Specific

Using the wrong grease on polyurethane does real damage, and this is the most common avoidable mistake in suspension work.

Petroleum based greases degrade polyurethane over time, softening it and breaking down the surface. The bushing swells, loses its shape and starts squeaking, which is the opposite of what it was fitted for.

Silicone or PTFE based lubricants are what polyurethane needs. They stay put, they do not attack the material, and they handle the pressure at the bushing face.

Apply it to the bushing bore and to the outer surface where it sits in the housing, not just to the pin. The squeak most people hear comes from the outer face rather than the inner.

Keep some spare on the shelf for later as well. Bushings benefit from re greasing at service intervals on vehicles that see water and mud, and greasable hardware is only worth fitting if the grease is on hand.

Shock Eye Bushings and Shelf Hardware

Some of the most useful parts here are sized rather than catalogued to a vehicle.

Universal shock eye bushings are specified by nipple diameter, inner diameter and thickness, which means a replacement can be found for an aftermarket or modified shock that has no listed part.

That matters on older cars, custom builds and anything running components the original manufacturer never supplied. Rather than replacing a serviceable shock because a bushing has perished, the bushing is replaced.

Measure the existing bushing in all three dimensions before ordering, since the inner diameter and the thickness both have to match.

Valve Stem Caps and Finishing Hardware

The small items exist because the factory parts are the cheapest possible version.

Valve stem caps keep dirt and moisture out of the valve, which is what stops a slow leak developing at the core. A metal cap with a seal does that considerably better than a bare plastic one.

Spare tire carrier mounts and the bushings around them stop the carrier rattling, which is the noise most people spend months trying to locate.

None of these change how a car handles. They stop small things becoming annoying, and they cost very little.

Strut Mounts in the Universal Range

Strut mounts turn up here as well as in their own category, and the distinction is worth knowing.

The mount carries the top of the strut into the body, contains the bearing on steering applications, and houses a bush that both isolates and locates.

A worn one knocks over bumps, makes the steering notchy or reluctant to self center, and lets the top of the strut move, which means the alignment shifts under load rather than staying where it was set.

The ones listed here cover applications where the mount is supplied as a standalone item rather than as part of a complete assembly.

Replace them in pairs and torque at ride height, since the bush takes its set from the position it is clamped in. Have the alignment checked afterward, because the upper geometry point has moved.
