Whiteline high lift jack handle holders lock the handle of your high lift jack firmly against the jack bar, stopping the constant rattle and movement that comes with carrying a jack outside the vehicle. Quick to fit and built to handle dust, water, sun and corrugations, they keep your recovery gear quiet, secure and ready when you need it.
A high lift jack is one of the most versatile recovery tools a 4WD or 4x4 can carry. Fitted with a jack handle holder, it can travel thousands of kilometres of rough tracks and highways without shaking loose or driving you to distraction.
Why High Lift Jack Handles Rattle
The handle on a high lift jack pivots on the jack mechanism, so it can be pumped up and down to raise or lower the load. When the jack is stowed, the handle is normally clipped up against the bar. That factory clip holds it in position, but it rarely holds it tightly.
On rough roads, the small gap between the handle and the bar lets the handle tap against the steel with every bump. Over time, this causes:
- Constant metallic rattling, often heard clearly inside the cabin
- Worn or chipped paint and coatings on the jack, leading to rust
- Wear on the handle clip and pivot points
- In some cases, the handle working loose from its clip
The problem occurs wherever the jack is mounted, and it?s worst on corrugated gravel and rocky tracks.
How a Jack Handle Holder Works
A jack handle holder fits between the handle and the jack bar, holding the two firmly together. It takes up the gap that allows movement and cushions any remaining vibration, so the handle can?t tap against the bar.
The holder doesn?t change how the jack works. When you need the jack, it releases quickly, so you can lower the handle and use the jack as normal. When you?re finished, simply clip the handle back up and refit the holder before stowing the jack.
Common High Lift Jack Mounting Locations
High lift jacks are usually carried outside the vehicle because of their length and weight. Common mounting positions include:
- Bullbars and front bars: keeps the jack accessible and out of the load space
- Roof racks and platform racks: a popular option for touring setups, using rack-mounted brackets or clamps
- Rear wheel carriers and spare wheel mounts: convenient for quick access at the back of the vehicle
- A-pillar and side mounts: keeps the jack low, alongside the windscreen or body
- Ute and pick-up trays or tubs: often fitted to headboards, side rails or canopy racks
Whichever mount you use, the jack handle holder works alongside it. The mount secures the jack to the vehicle, and the holder secures the handle to the jack. Together, they give a solid, silent setup.
Part of a Complete Recovery Setup
A high lift jack is often carried with other essential recovery gear, such as recovery boards, snatch straps, shackles, a winch and tyre repair equipment. A well-organised recovery kit is quicker to use when you?re stuck, and safer when the pressure?s on.
A jack handle holder is a small but valuable part of that setup. It keeps the jack ready to use and in good condition, and it reduces the noise and fatigue of long-distance touring and overlanding on rough roads.
Built for Harsh Off-Road Conditions
Jacks mounted outside the vehicle are exposed to dust, mud, water crossings, salt spray, heat and strong UV. Whiteline jack handle holders are made from tough, weather-resistant materials. They resist UV, heat and impact, and they hold their grip on the handle through constant vibration.
Because the holder cushions the handle, it also protects the coating on the jack and handle from chipping. That helps prevent rust from forming and keeps the mechanism working smoothly for longer.
Fitting and Use
Jack handle holders are designed for quick, tool-free fitting on high lift style jacks:
- Raise the handle to its stowed, upright position against the jack bar and engage the factory handle clip.
- Fit the holder around the handle and bar, so it holds them firmly together.
- Check the handle can?t move before driving, and recheck after the first rough section of track.
Remove the holder before using the jack, then refit it once the jack is stowed again.
Safe Handling When Using Your Jack
High lift jacks are powerful tools, and the handle can move suddenly under load. Always follow the jack manufacturer?s safety instructions.
Keep your head and body clear of the handle?s path while lifting or lowering. Never place any part of your body under a raised vehicle. Store the jack with the handle secured, so it can?t drop or swing unexpectedly when you remove it from its mount.
Who Jack Handle Holders Suit
Jack handle holders suit 4WD and 4x4 owners carrying a high lift jack on a bar, rack or wheel carrier, and touring and overlanding drivers who spend long days on corrugated roads. Ute and pick-up owners carrying a jack in the tray or on a canopy rack benefit too, as do farmers and tradespeople who carry a high lift jack daily for work.
